Celebrity Love Island was a British dating reality show. The first season premiered on ITV on May 16, 2004 and was cancelled after two seasons.
History[]
In 2005, it was announced that ITV would be premiering a brand new reality show named "Celebrity Love Island" featuring celebrity contestants. It was marketed as a rival for Channel 4's popular reality show, Big Brother, which was set to return for its sixth season the same year.
The series premiered on May 16, 2004, and was hosted by comedian Patrick Kielty and model/actress Kelly Brook. On July 6, 2006, it was announced that the series would be dropping the word "Celebrity" from the title due to the inclusion of non-celebrities.[1] The second began airing in July 2006, with Fearne Cotton serving as the new host.
On November 24, 2006, it was announced that the series had been cancelled after only two seasons.[2]
Format[]
Viewers would vote for the couple they would like to see in the "love shack" where the two would get to know one another better. In the first series, each week viewers voted celebrities off the island, but in the second, the inhabitants had the final say. The identities of those being kicked out were revealed in the elimination episodes. The prize for the final couple left standing was £50,000 each.
